Board member, newly appointed. Political Director

What municipality or organization do you represent? 
Otonabee South Monaghan

What is your educational and professional background?
Retired Registered Nurse.

The OMWA is a not-for-profit organization and all Board positions, including yours, are all volunteer, what inspired you to become an OMWA Board Member?
Knowing how important safe water is for our communities, this gives me the opportunity to have input and ensure this continues. As well this enables me to have the opportunity to network with peers, share our challenges and ensure our communities water is safe. Also this organization gives access to government officials to influence direction.

What do you hope to see in the future for OMWA?
I would like to see our organization grow it’s membership and also have representation from our First Nations Communities. We can be a very influential organization with broader representation and a larger membership.

What would you say to a 16-year-old student considering a career path, in water?
Wonderful, water is our greatest resource and offers a very diverse career path..

What advice would you give to a new graduate considering a position in the water industry?
Municipal experience would be a great starting point and give you a solid knowledge base to choose the direction and path you would like to go down. The need for safe water will always be there.

What’s your hometown?
Keene, Ontario.

What brought you to Ontario?
Born and raised on a farm in Ontario.

What was your first job?
Working on my family farm, from a very young age we all had chores.

What challenges have you had to overcome in your career? 
Knowing how to handle surgeons, as a R.N. in charge of a surgical unit, personalities were unique and sometimes needed to be managed.

What are some of your hobbies or how do you spend your free time?
Travelling, gardening, decorating and volunteering with our local food bank.

What is something quirky about you?
I actually was paid to curl, believe it or not.

What was your most prized toy as a child, and why? 
My favorite toy was a doll I named Sandra.

If you could have a t-shirt printed with a message, what would it be?
Don’t muddy the water, It is our greatest resource!
