Session #12: Let’s talk elevated tank rehabilitation!

ON DEMAND RECORDING

“Expires Wed Oct 23 2024”

Overview:

Elevated water tanks form part of many water distribution systems throughout Ontario.  Appearing in many forms, tanks play a critical role in the water distribution system by providing equalization, emergency and fire storage. Roughly every 20 years, each active elevated tank will need to undergo a full rehabilitation to maintain its operation and ensure that the structure can continue to be operated over its intended service life. This presentation will provide an overview of the key components which must be considered to successfully plan and execute a full-scale rehabilitation of a typical welded steel elevated water tank. It will also cover typical problems encountered during the construction stage which, if not accounted for may result in significant claims as well as schedule overruns.

At the completion of this one-hour OJT session, participants will be able to demonstrate the following:

                            • Describe elevated tank rehabilitation triggers,
                            • Understand impacts of coating failure and potential corrosion impacts on interior and exterior steel surfaces,
                            • Define key considerations of a typical elevated tank rehabilitation project, and key construction challenges related to elevated tank rehabilitation work, and
                            • Understand the framework of an elevated tank maintenance program and importance of regular maintenance.
