FREE to members.
Fee for non-members $30+HST.
Overview:
Traditional air valves designs from some sixty years ago are outdated. Premature closing, inadequate air relief capacity or surge damage are the main factors that can make these installations ineffective. New designs are available to you incorporating modern air relief set ups inside corrosive resistant, anti-surge bodies.
Get out of the chambers! Eliminate costly air valve manhole chamber installations, transitioning pipeline materials, water infiltration through manhole apertures threatening potable water quality, and confined space safety requirements. Air valve cannisters to be installed directly over or off the pipeline are the answer to managing air inside pipelines. Direct bury air valves are designed to be serviced from above ground.
At the completion of this one-hour OJT session, participants will be able to demonstrate the following:
-
-
-
-
-
- How air infiltration affects pipeline performance and where to expect the air to accumulate.
- The two basic and unrelated air valve functions.
- Air valve chamber design requirements when upgrading existing installations
- Direct bury air valve design alternatives to avoid problems in the future.

Facilitators:
Gerry Gunn, P.Eng
Our facilitator is Gerry Gunn, P.Eng, manufacturer sales agent for over 27 years. Gerry began working with ARI, an air valve manufacturer in Israel, 17 years ago designing, advising, and installing air valves across eastern Canada. New air valve designs and direct bury technology development has been at the forefront of this work. Recently Gerry began representation of H-Tec air valves, manufactured by Hawle Corporation of Bertles Garten Germany. Gerry has also partnered with Utility Supply Corporation Sales Agency for ten years representing several types of pipe joining devices, leak clamps, and others. For the last 12 years, Gerry has done air valve training courses through OWWCO.
