Session #8 – Mechanics of Corrosion & Management Strategies

Overview:
Corrosion and lost water costs tax payers millions of dollars unnecessarily. By adopting one or multiple approaches to managing corrosion, costs can be reduced by 25-35% according to AMPP (formerly NACE). But these are not one-size-fits all approaches and a few things need to be considered when choosing your corrosion management strategy. In this session we will briefly look at how corrosion works, the different management strategies and the risks and benefits associated with each.
At the completion of this one-hour OJT session, participants will be able to demonstrate the following:

- How corrosion works as an electrochemical phenomenon
- Understand the benefits and risks of different approaches such as cathodic protection, epoxy, stainless steel and field applied coatings
- Understand how each of those options work and how they are to be installed properly to work properly.

Facilitator:
Stuart Reece
Our facilitator is Stuart Reece, owner of River Run Industrial. Stuart has worked in the municipal infrastructure space for the last nine years, has his NACE Level 2 Certification and specializes in providing quality products and coatings to prevent corrosion and protect vital infrastructure. Recently relocated to British Columbia, Stuart still has many colleagues and friends in Ontario and Eastern Canada and operates a small industrial distribution company operating nationally named after his daughter River.
Logistics:
These 1-hour virtual sessions are offered every alternate Thursday starting at 2:00 pm. Sessions are complimentary to all OMWA members and the fee for non-members is $30.00 CAD plus HST per person per session.
