Most utilities are experiencing higher water main failure and water loss with aging infrastructure. How do you stop responding to failure and start planning for failure?  What if you could utilize IoT devices and data analytics in everyday operation and planning? What if water loss reduction is no longer simply a response but an outcome of daily operation? What would this proactive approach look like? This session will provide an overview of AWWA M36 manual’s four pronged approach to water loss reduction through present day technology.

At the completion of this one-hour OJT session, participants will be able to demonstrate the following:

                    • Understand categories of water loss
                    • Utilizing M36 approach to water loss reduction
                    • Reducing water loss through pressure management
                    • Avoiding catastrophic failure through monitoring
                    • Prioritization of capital projects through asset management
