Session #3: Get out of the “man-hole”
Expires Wed Mar 5 2025.
Overview:
Materials and labour to maintain our infrastructure is climbing alarmingly, which adds to future development costs. As an Industry we need to find ways to reducing operational costs while providing increasing protection to the infrastructure. One directive should be to eliminate manholes and concrete chambers to house air valves, shut off valves etc. along the pipeline. To service an air valve inside a chamber can require 5-8 people, including flagmen, confined space entry tripod procedure, vac truck and so on. By installing air valves, as one example, with its own cannister servicing is done from the surface reducing labour costs significantly (to as low as one person if the air valve is installed on a blvd adjacent to the roadway.
At the completion of this one-hour OJT session, participants will be able to demonstrate the following:
-
-
-
-
- How air valves work
- Typical chamber design for existing servicing
- New direct bury design for both water and wastewater applications.
