Overview:
Ductile iron pipe is a commonly specified pressure piping material for potable water distribution and treatment systems across Canada. In this session we will go over the manufacturing process for ductile iron pipe. We will also go over pipe wall thickness design, corrosion control strategies and life cycle costing.
At the completion of this one-hour OJT session, participants will be able to demonstrate the following:

- An understanding of the mechanical properties of ductile iron pipe.
- An ability to select appropriate class of piping for your needs.
- An understanding of corrosion mechanisms as they pertain to underground infrastructure
- Prevention of corrosion, both internal and external for metallic infrastructure.
- Comprehension of the costs involved in a linear infrastructure project over the life of an asset.
Greg Principi
Our Facilitator Greg Principi of Canada Pipe Company ULC. Greg has been in the construction industry for 5 years in Ontario after completion of his bachelors in civil engineering from Queens University in Kingston. He has been involved in all aspects of municipal infrastructure projects having experience in engineering consultation, construction and manufacturing. In his role as National Product Engineer for Canada Pipe, Greg assists municipalities and stakeholders in designing and constructing piping solutions for their distribution and treatment systems.
Logistics:
These 1-hour virtual sessions are offered every alternate Thursday starting at 2:00 pm. Sessions are complimentary to all OMWA members and the fee for non-members is $30.00 CAD plus HST per person per session.
