TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
SCOTT BROOKS
1. How long have you been on the Board and what position do you currently hold?
Newly elected in April 2024 as a Technical Director.
2. What municipality or organization do you represent?
Municipality of North Perth.
3. What is your educational and professional background?
I’ve been in the water and wastewater industry for 25 years and have a wealth of operational and regulatory compliance experience. It is all I know.
4. The OMWA is a not-for-profit organization and all Board positions, including yours, are all volunteer, what inspired you to become an OMWA Board Member?
I think this will be a good opportunity to advocate especially for smaller communities. I believe I bring a unique perspective on some of the challenges that smaller to medium size communities face that larger ones with a large user base do not.
5. What do you hope to see in the future for OMWA?
Continue to advocate on behalf of all municipalities, townships, and cities throughout Ontario. Increasing membership and having our voices heard on existing and new regulations in the industry.
6. What would you say to a 16-year-old student considering a career path, in water?
There are endless possibilities in the water sector whether you want to be in operations, trades, engineering etc., there is a place for you in the industry.
7. What advice would you give to a new graduate considering a position in the water industry?
Having operational experience in invaluable, learn and understand the regulations. Ensure you talk to others in the industry to grow your professional network. There will be many opportunities for advancement throughout your career as long as you work hard.

Listowel, Ontario.
9. What brought you to Ontario?
Born here.
10. What was your first job?
Cleaning vehicles at a car dealership.
11. What challenges have you had to overcome in your career?
Keeping up with and knowing the ever-changing regulations in the water and wastewater industry. Working in a small to medium sized Municipality you need to wear a lot of different hats.
12. What are some of your hobbies or how do you spend your free time?
I enjoy golfing, travelling, and spending time with friend and family.
13. What is something quirky about you?
I’m a big Buffalo Bills fan.
14. What was your most prized toy as a child, and why?
I wooden rocking horse that my grandfather made, which I still have to this day.
15. If you could have a t-shirt printed with a message, what would it be?
Don’t sweat the small stuff.
